Embracing Your Purpose: 5 Life Hacks

The over 40 crowd is at a unique crossroad in life. We've likely accomplished a great deal, experienced numerous ups and downs, and have a wealth of wisdom to draw from. However, amidst the chaos of daily responsibilities and the hustle and bustle of life, it's easy to lose sight of our purpose. But fear not! Embodying your purpose in everyday life doesn't have to be a daunting task. Here are five simple life hacks to help you live your purpose every day:

  1. Morning Reflections: Start your day with intention by incorporating a morning reflection ritual into your routine. Whether it's through meditation, journaling, or simply taking a few moments to quietly sip your coffee, use this time to connect with yourself and align your actions with your purpose. Reflect on what truly matters to you, and set clear intentions for how you want to show up in the world that day. I write down the sentence, “I choose to live my true nature and purpose.  My committed action step for today is . . . . “.  That’s when I go into flow writing.  I just allow whatever needs to come out to come out.  There is so much science backing the power of pen to paper.  When we just think about it, it’s not real enough for us to take action.  Once the words hit the paper, our motivation changes. 
  2. Prioritize Your Passions: Identify the activities and pursuits that light a fire within you, and make them a priority in your daily life. Whether it's painting, gardening, volunteering, or pursuing a long-held dream, carving out time for your passions will not only bring you joy but also help you stay connected to your purpose. Remember, it's never too late to chase your dreams and do what makes your soul sing. For me, it’s like there isn’t another option because it’s who I am.  The thing I would most equate it to is motherhood.  Every day you have to get up and take care of the baby, regardless of how you’re feeling.  Treat your purpose with the same commitment, nurturing and care that you would taking care of a small child, pet or plant. 
  3. Embrace Mindful Moments: In today's fast-paced world, it's all too easy to get swept up in the chaos and lose sight of the present moment. Cultivate mindfulness by incorporating small moments of presence into your day. Whether it's savoring your morning cup of tea, going for a leisurely walk in nature, or taking a few deep breaths before tackling a challenging task, these moments of mindfulness will help you stay grounded and connected to your purpose. Personally, I am a big advocate for 5x5x5 breathing several times a day.  Set your timer and do 5 sets of breath, especially before you eat or have a difficult conversation.  You breathe in for a count of 5, hold for a count of 5 and exhale for a count of 5.  Repeat 5 times.  You’ll be amazed at how quickly it will reset your nervous system. 
  4. Practice Gratitude Daily: Take time each day to cultivate an attitude of gratitude. Whether it's through keeping a gratitude journal, expressing thanks to loved ones, or simply pausing to appreciate the beauty around you, practicing gratitude can have a profound impact on your overall well-being and sense of purpose. By focusing on the blessings in your life, you'll cultivate a greater sense of abundance and fulfillment. Don’t just think about gratitude, really feel it.  It changes the internal chemistry of your body like magic. 
  5. Connect with Like-Minded Souls: Surround yourself with people who support and uplift you on your journey to living your purpose. Seek out communities, whether online or in person, where you can connect with like-minded individuals who share your passions and values. Whether it's a book club, a hobby group, or a support network, finding your tribe will provide you with invaluable support, encouragement, and inspiration along the way.

Embodying your purpose in everyday life is not about making grand gestures or achieving monumental feats. Rather, it's about infusing intention, passion, and mindfulness into the small moments of your daily routine. By incorporating these five simple life hacks into your life, you can live each day with purpose, passion, and meaning, empowering yourself to embrace the fullness of life in all its beauty and complexity. Remember, you are never too old, too busy, or too late to live a life aligned with your purpose. Embrace the journey, trust the process, and let your light shine brightly for the world to see.
