In 2021, I made a shocking realization.
I was sitting in a hospital chair, watching my blood being drawn—and what came out of me looked like molasses. Thick. Sluggish.
The phlebotomist squinted at the vial and casually said, “You’re dehydrated.”
“What?! That’s impossible,” I said, half-laughing.
“I drink so much water. I pee clear. In fact, I pee all. the. time.”
But blood doesn’t lie.
I had just gone through a prolonged season of stress (hello, 2020), and my body had gone into survival mode. It wasn’t absorbing the water I was giving it—it was flushing everything straight out.
Sure, I had dry mouth. But doesn’t everyone?
Trouble focusing? ADHD, right?
Couldn’t sleep? Typical 40-something.
Emotionally dysregulated? Must be hormones.
Felt like I was floating out of my body? Spiritual awakening, obviously.
But deep down, I knew something was off.
And because I do what I teach, I got curious.
I pulled out an old book from my days studying Complementary Medicine in England—Your Body’s Many Cries for Water by Dr. F. Batmanghelidj.
Then I ordered Quench by Dr. Dana Cohen and Gina Bria (a must-read, by the way).
Turns out?
I wasn’t just dehydrated.
I was spiritually desiccated.
And once I started replenishing with the right kind of hydration—everything changed.
